Heidi's Hug: The Beginning

THE DOG THAT BROUGHT MY PARENTS TOGETHER AND RESPONSIBLE FOR MY VERY EXISTENCE! I know right. WHAT!!!

The way my mom tells the story it goes a little something like this.

Mom and dad met at a evening church gathering. For the first two weeks they talked by email because mom worked days and dad worked swing shift. During those first two weeks, dad sent a single picture of his dog and mom fell in love.

Their first date was at a coffee shop. They had a pleasant conversation In one such conversation that night, daddy kindly reminded mom they had gone to a dance together in 10th grade! When mom returned home she quickly pulled out her high school pictures and realized that he was not wrong. They had history together, no really they had one class together and it was history. They sat next to each other and dad kindly shared his book because she often forgot her. “hmm or did she conveniently leave it in her locker.” ( Comment bellow accident or convenient )Moving on to their second date dad invited mom to his house. She quickly asked “will I get to meet your dog?’’ He said “sure…’’ note, mom said she was already obsessed, lol.

When she arrived at the house, she noticed there was no Heidi roaming around. They talked for a few minutes or so, until she couldn’t wait any longer. She asked, “where’s Heidi?” He paused for a minute and said, “well she’s upstairs because she’s kind of crazy, but I can go get her.” Mom said, “Yes please do that!” At the time mom didn’t have any pets of her own so this was the next best thing, loving on her friends dogs. Heidi came bounding down the stairs and fell into moms arms and she was in HEAVEN! Love at first pet for sure. A long story short…Mom started walking Heidi at night while dad was at work, and doing her school work at his house to hang out with her while he was at work. She was working on a degree from Western Washington University at the time. What can I say, dad fell in love with mom, proposed on Easter Sunday 2008, they got married June 8, 2008, and I was born Easter Sunday April 4th 2010!!! As WONDERFUL as that story is, there is a TRAGIC story inside. Mom and Dad noticed Heidi was not doing well, losing weight, barely eating, pooping all over in the house, she couldn’t help it…she had colin CANCER. There was a tumor cutting off the exit from her intestines. By the time they found it, it was the size of a small soccer ball. Mom and dad took her into the vet on her 3rd Birthday. She didn’t make it out. Absolutely heart broken, Heidi had become mom’s sidekick. She went everywhere with her. Mom says, she made it a week before looking for a rescue pup to fill the hole. Within two weeks….a wonderful pup from Eastern Washington came across the pass to meet us…. ENTERS MEEKA! For Heidi’s Hugs Treats we decided to go with something that mom liked to do when she was with her. She Juiced a lot and made healthy pink drinks. We want all ingredients to be of HEALTHY benefit to your pups, we picked organic apples, carrots, beets and oats, camelina seeds, chia seeds, flaxseeds, turmeric, and cinnamon! All of these have health benefits for the intestines and skin as well as provide energy. The fruit and veggies are juiced and we use the pulp and juice with the rest of the ingredients. We then cut all of the treats by hand, dehydrate them and ice some of them. The icing we use is tapioca starch, powdered yogurt, and fruit or veggie powder. NO chemicals are used and NO fillers.
